culture jammer

1.  What aspect of your cultural jam do you find most successful and why?
I think the most successful part of my cultural jam is the animals and how they lay on the the face and how they still look like animals
2.  What aspect of your culture jam do you find least successful and why? I think the least successful part of my culture jam might be the name cover girl I could have changed it to make it more creative, or make it obvious that I'm making fun of it.
3.  If you could do this project again, what changes would you make to improve it?
If I could do this project again I might try and do a different company and put a lot more time into to make it something that you might have never seen before.

Brainstorm

I think i would like to do my ad buster on Abercrombie and Fitch because their Ceo got into a lot of trouble because he was interview and told the person giving the interveiw “It’s almost everything. That’s why we hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that.”
“In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids,” said Jeffries in the same article. “Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong.”   and they used to not carry any sizes past size 10 girls. I was also thinking that i could do my project on cover girl and how they still use animal testing.

1. What company does the advertisement represent/subvert?
This ad represents how cover girl tested their products on animals.
2.  What kind of product(s) is being advertised?
The product that is being represented in this ad is foundation but I think they are generally trying to get the point across that they test all their products on animals and its inhumane.
3.  What imagery is used in the advertisement to subvert?
The imagery used in this ad is the bunny and how it is testing the make up products.
4.  What message (text, copy) is used in the advertisement?
The message that they are trying to get across is the fact that animals are being used to test makeup, and that it’s cruel.
5.  How are the elements and principles of design used to convey a message?
6.  Who is the target audience of the advertisement?
The target audience of this ad would be people who purchase cover girl products.
7.  Does the ad jam convey a clear and successful message?
I think this ad jam does get the message across we think its werird that the bunny is wearing make up and then we think why would someone ever put make up on a animal.  It shows we know that the bunny wearing make up is cruel.

8.  How could the ad jam be improved?
The ad could have more of a point that this is really hurting the animals and make people open their eyes and think "wow this is really cruel!"

For my 3d brushes assignment used the sharpening brush and making photos into brushes.  Some of the ideas that I ended up using included the car shells and the old merry go round that has been broken; I also included lots of over grown brush and grass. I added a large old building that looked abandoned, as well as some old falling down hydro posts.  Yes some of my ideas did change I didn’t add some of the stuff that I wanted to like the bugs or animals I just thought it would have been too much with them and I do think the picture did look better without them it also made it a little more creepy.  I added some other things that I never thought to add when I was doing the brainstorming such as the power lines that I thought was a really cool element and the clouds made it more realistic. i don't think any artists really inspired this art.  For this piece i tried not to put anything directly in the centre i had everything a bit to the side but i tried to balance it out.  I think your eye moves around the page quite well it starts and rolls around the outside and makes sure you don't miss anything.  I think the clouds and grass add a great deal to the movement.  My motivation for this was seeing the finally piece and what it was going to look like in the end.  I think the most interesting elements in this art is the grass and the clouds that add to it and make it look very realistic.  I think the end surprised and how well it ended up turning out and how difficult it was to find some photos that would work well.  With additional time i might have added more grass and changed up a few photos.
